As we bade our eternal summer goodbye, a slew of autumn series will start to fall. With every end, there’s a new beginning. Here are just some of the anticipated series invading our small screen. Have you got your list of shows to watch for this season?

One Line Summary: Minority Report meets Judge Dredd
Why would I watch it?
The first season of this series caught my eye – it tackled a world whereby its citizens became too complacent because it had a system to catch criminals before a crime is ever committed. Sounds familiar? Now every rule has an exception, and that exception was Shougo Makishima (CV: Sakurai Takahiro). We can say that he was pretty much a cold-blooded murderer, yet immune to the system.

Of course, the metro’s finest put a bounty on his head. Kougami and team were sent on a multiple wild goose chases after Makishima, and barely ever came close. Of course the climax ended up being a showdown between Kougami and Makishima. At the end, we are left with more questions than answers, most pressingly – “Did Kougami do the right thing? Did he choose correctly?”.

In life, we are also faced with the same dilemma, we do things that constitutes our tomorrow. The first season just left me with this kind of message, and yes, this is also the reason why I will be watching the second season. Overall, season 1 left me with such a deep impression that I’d definitely give season 2 a go.

Fun Trivia: The indie rock band trio, Ling Tosite Sigure, reunited to record the OP theme for Psycho-Pass 2, “Enigmatic Feeling”.

Terraformars

Premiere Date: 27  September 2014
Genre: sci-fi,action, seinen
Story: Set in the distant future where mankind sent roaches and mould to help make planet Mars habitable (terra-forming). Many years have passed since, and a crew is sent over to check on the planet, but the expedition team never makes it back to Earth. They were attacked by giant humanoid roaches, known as “Terraformars”. A second expedition is sent to infiltrate and kill the bugs but was unsuccessful.

This time, two survivors from the second expedition manages to return to earth to tell the tale. Earth is now launching a third expedition, composed of genetically modified soldiers. Will they finally be able to pull the final trigger on these roached and stop the menace or is there a far greater truth hidden beneath?
terraformars
One Line Summary : Attack of the Killer Insects on Mars
Why would I watch it?
“Will a killer ant symbiotic soldier be able to win a battle against a cockroach droid?”

This is pretty summarises the setup for Terraformars. This is a battle for survival — a kick in the teeth for many of the weary soldiers sent by the government to battle. There is much mystery at the beginning of the series. Why do these soldiers need to engage in a war against these foul creatures? What brought upon this tragedy?

Hopefully, these questions will be answered at the end of the series. As much as I detest watching anything that has insects in it, since a flying roach would have me running in the opposite direction, I think I will still give this series a go. For me, there’s that thirst to know if these genetically modified humans will be able to win against these creepy crawlers.

Not that I am on a warpath, but I would anticipate the various transformations our heroes had to undergo for them to gain the power to fight back against these creatures.

Fun Trivia: The manga went into serialization while the author Yu Sasuga was still a student in 2011. (A future Oda in the making!)

Seven Deadly Sins

Premiere Date : 5 October 2014
Genre: shounen, adventure, fantasy
Story:  It tells the tale of Meliodas (CV: Yuuki Kaji) and his merry band of warriors, known as the “Seven Deadly Sins”. They were accused by the Holy Knight, the king’s trusted guards, for plotting to overthrow the kingdom of Britannia. This group of exiled warriors were eventually disbanded and went on their separate ways. When the Holy Knight finally revealed their true colours, Princess Elizabeth (CV: Sora Amamiya), sought help from these once notable warriors.

The merry band comes together again to free the kingdom of Britannia from the clutches of the Holy Knight.

nanatsu no taizai
One Line Summary: Fairy Tail meets Dragon Quest

Why would I watch it?
This is like your average quest series.

We have a damsel in distress seeking help from esteemed warriors to get back what is rightfully hers. On the other hand, we have the set of warriors, personified by the Seven Deadly Sins, willing to help our damsel. What sets this series apart from other quest series is the fact that the protagonist, Melodias, was a long forgotten warrior cast aside by the kingdom, and that same kingdom now seeks his help (and from his friends) to fight alongside and restore the Kingdom (talk about coming full circle!).

Will Melodias be able to reunite with his friends, mend lost and broken friendships, and save the Kingdom? Justice and loyalty is the theme that prevails throughout this series. My interest is piqued to see if this series will be able to capture the hearts of young men and if the series will be able to convey its message of camaraderie, forgiveness, and loyalty.

Fun Trivia: Both Hiro Mashima and Suzuki Nakaba drew a yonkoma (four-panel comic) featuring a crossover between Fairy Tail and Nanatsu no Taizai series for a special issue of Weekly Shounen Magazine.
