What happens when the modern world we have today meets a fantasy-filled world filled with magic, dragons, elves, and other fantastical beings? Because that is the very premise of the new anime called Gate, and the new anime’s official website has just underwent a massive update by revealing its first key visual, PV, release date, staff, and cast!

Gate is based on the light novel series written by former Japan Self Defense Force (JSDF) officer, Kaku Tatakaeri titled Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite. It is set in our modern world, however, a sudden appearance of a magic portal in Tokyo’s Ginza district changes everything and Japan’s JSDF is sent to investigate. This results in a clash between the modern world and the fantasy world.

Here is the anime’s very first PV which also announces that the anime will premiere this July 2015:

The anime’s main cast has also been announced, with Junichi Suwabe (Fate/ Stay Night’s Archer) in the lead role as JSDF officer, Youji Itami, who also happens to be an otaku. In the new world, he encounters the elf named Tuka Luna Marso, voiced by Hisako Kanemoto (Maria the Virgin Witch’s Maria), the human mage named Lelei la Lelena, voiced by Nao Touyama (Nisekoi’s Chitoge, Oregairu’s Yui Yuigahama, and Kantai Collection’s four Kongou sisters), and the demigod named Rory Mercury, voiced by Risa Taneda (Kyoukai no Kanata’s Mirai Kuriyama and Strike the Blood’s Yukina Himeragi).

Love Live! director Takahiro Kyougoku will be directing this new anime over at A-1 Pictures. Silver Spoon character designer, Jun Nakai, is responsible for the character designs while series composition will be handled by Black Bullet’s Tatsuhiko Urahata. The series will be produced by GENCO.
