The original series, Sousei no Aquarion (Genesis of Aquarion) was aired in 2005. It was written by Shoji Kawamori and produced by Satelight. The series’ main theme revolved around a story of long lost love and oppression. It paid homage to mecha series that were produced in the 1970s and 1980s. Aquarion Evol soon followed in 2012. It continued from where the story last left off some 12000 years later.

The event also announced that Aquarion will have an original video animation, Aquarion Love, bringing in casts from the previous franchise Aquarion Evol and Sousei no Aquarion. A live event with the casts from the three Aquarion series will also be held on 28 June 2015  at Shibuya Koukaido in Tokyo. The event will bring in Akino with bless4 and will stage a special concert.

A new stage play, Hiro Natsu no Aquarion will also open in Tokyo.
