“Ahh.. Seishun! Spring — the smell of flowers blooming, the beginning of a new term ..” Yes folks! Spring is just around the corner. Spring brings in a new beginning, a new series and a new term. This season, we will be taking classes with Ginpachi-sensei, Kagami-sensei, and probably getting along with Taichi and his friends.
Without further adieu, here’s a look at some of the anticipated new series this spring:

Kyoukai no Rinne
Author: Rumiko Takahashi
Date Airing: 4 April 2015
Genre: comedy, romance, supernatural
Starring: Marina Inoue, Kaito Ishikawa, Ryohei Kimura
Summary: Sakura Mamiya (CV:Marina Inoue) is a high school girl with special abilities — she can see ghosts much to her dismay. She gets to have an encounter with Rokudou Rinne(CV:Kaito Ishikawa), a jack-of-all-trade shinigami, who also happens to be her classmate. With their fates intertwined, can Sakura see beyond her ability and learn to accept it?
Why would I watch it? Anything that has got to do Rumiko Takahashi’s works are anything but nice. With hit series such as Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha under her belt, it won’t be long before this new found gem will catch the attention of the audience. Most of her works involve a lot of comedy, drama, romance and action, this series is no exception. Glad that after even after 36 years, Rumiko Takahashi-sensei is still making good comics!

Author: Hideaki Sorachi
Date Aired: 8 April 2015
Starring: Tomokazu Sugita, Rie Kugimiya, Daisuke Sakaguchi
Summary: In an alternate time near the end of Edo period aliens who call themselves, “Amanto”, have invaded Japan. The shogun surrendered unconditionally and a puppet government has been installed. During this day, the samurai were forced to surrender their arms as decreed by the shogun. Most of the samurai are now jobless, including Gintoki Sakata (CV: Tomokazu Sugita), the series’ hero. The story tells the tale of Gintoki and his daily struggles to make ends meet.
Why would I want to watch? The much awaited new season for Gintama promises nothing but laughter. If you are looking for a series that has the whole package, Gintama is the anime for you – it has action, drama and a whole lot of comedy and parody. In case you’re keeping track, the last time Gintama was shown. It stopped at episodes 262-264 which was based on chapter 403- 410 of the manga, the “School of Saber Beam” arc . To jog your memory, the arc was about Hajime-nii (CV: Masaya Onosaka) who taught Shinpachi (CV: Daisuke Sakaguchi) and O-tae (CV: Satsuki Yukino) the way of the sword. We just hope that this comeback will be another 4 cour series ( 52 episodes) !

Owari no Seraph (Seraph of the End)
Author: Takaya Kagami, Yamato Yamamoto and Daisuke Furuya
Date Airing: 6 April 2015
Starring : Irino Miyu, Sakurai Takahiro, Kensho Ono, Tomoaki Maeno, Suzuki Tatsuhisa, Aoi Yuuki
Owari no Seraph begins at a time when the world is ravaged by a man-made virus and children are the lone survivors. Vampires emerged from their slumber and dominated the world enslaving the children. In midst of it all stands a 13-year old boy, Yuuichirou Hyakuya (CV: Miyu Irino), who dreams of one day to kill all the vampires and bring their humanity back.
Why would I watch it? A dystopian take on a neo-Japan where vampires (not Edward Cullen!) roam the earth freely and feed off human blood. Humans are basically sitting ducks and are practically livestock! Slowly over time, humanity begins to rise up and fight the vampires off. They have a dedicated army that put stakes unto the vampire’s heart. Well, in this case, the Japanese Imperial Demon Army uses an anti-demon weapon to chop off the vampire’s head. (All is well!) Expect the series to have some bad-ass human to vampire face off. Will the Japanese Imperial Demon Army be any better than the vampire army counterpart. But for me, “Go Team JIDA !”

Arslan Senki ( Heroic Legend of Arslan)
Original Author: Yoshiki Tanaka
Second Adaptation By: Hiromu Arakawa
Date Airing : 5 April 2015
Starring: Yuusuke Kobayashi, Maaya Sakamoto, Yoshimasa Hosoya, KENN, Daisuke Namikawa, Natsuki Hanae
Summary: The story is about a young, naive prince of Pars, Arslan (CV:Yuusuke Kobayashi), who in the eyes of the many seemed to be weak and inexperienced. He walks behind the shadow of his father, King Andragoras, a king who has led many victorious battles and is feared by many. Arslan, at the tender age of 14, sets out to his first battle only to be defeated in the end. The once glorious kingdom is now in shambles. As it is written in Arslan’s destiny, he takes on an onerous journey. He assembles a party of five gallant allies— priestess Falangies(CV:Maaya Sakamoto), a once high-ranking military personnel Daryun (CV: Yoshimasa Hosoya), musician Gieve (CV:KENN) , the tactician Narsus(CV:Daisuke Namikawa ) and his attendant, Elam (CV: Natsuki Hanae) —to help him in his quest to regain his kingdom.
Why would I watch it? A series with Hiromu Arakawa’s trademark is already a good enough reason to watch it. Though it seems like a certain RPG game, this remarkable story of Arslan will let us remind ourselves of stories regarding friendship and daily struggles. Life is like a box of chocolates, we will never know what kind of fate awaits us.

Original Author : Unknown
Date Airing: 16 April 2015
Starring: Toshiyuki Morikawa, Sho Hayami
An ordinary salaryman, Kenji Fujikido (CV:Sho Hayami), turned vigilante who roams the night of Neo-Saitama. His wife and child were killed during the ninja turf war, thus he swore vengeance on the murderers of his family. Before succumbing to his own death, Fujikido was possessed by the soul of the Naraku Ninja(CV: Toshiyuki Morikawa). With the power he wilfully attains, he becomes the “Ninja Slayer”, the harbinger of death to the menace of society.
Why would I watch it? The art was a reminisce of Jim Lee’s WildC.A.T.s. Ninja Slayer looks like a bad-ass fusion of east meets west animation. It piqued my interest to take a look at the series and see how it’s going to be. Having Toshiyuki Morikawa and Sho Hayami in the cast is definitely reassuring that the series will be in good hands.

Author: Takeshi Azuma
Date Airing : 4 April 2015
Starring : Hiroshi Kamiya, Rena Matsui, Sora Amamiya, Suzuko Mimori
Genre: Comedy, Harem
Summary: The story of Junnichiro Kagami (CV:Hiroshi Kamiya), who is taunted as a child wonder in the field of physics, until one day he lost interest in the subject. He becomes a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) and an otaku, which proved to be a taxing thing for his sister, Suzune Kagami (CV:Rena Matsui). Fed up by his brother’s antics, she enlisted his brother to teach physics at her school.
Why would i watch it? Where do I sign up to hear Hiroshi Kamiya as a quirky, eccentric professor ( He took the reins from Daisuke Ono, by the way). Seriously speaking, the series is lighthearted and can be seen as a break from all the serious things that we have been watching. We might also learn a thing or two from Suzune, who in her own little way had shown her love for her beloved oni-chan and did something with his brother’s situation . A genius can’t stay as a NEET forever.
