Shuuichi Shigeno’s classic street racing franchise, Initial D, is widely considered to be one of the greatest racing anime of all time, and it seems that the series’ main character, Takumi Fujiwara, will be hitting the road for yet another race, well… sort of.

Two official Initial D race cars, both featuring the anime racing hero, will be participating in the All Japan Rally Championship 2015 Round 2. The cars will not only be promoting the upcoming Shin Gekijou-ban Initial D Legend 2 -Tousou- movie, but they will be racing officially.

The black and white-colored “Fujiwara Tofu Shop 86” is inspired by Takumi Fujiwara’s Fujiwara Tofu Shop AE86 Trueno, while the red and black Morpho Initial D Sammy K186 will be driven by veteran racer and Initial D fan, Manabu “MAX” Orido. The Morpho Initial D Sammy K186 will also be participating at the Okayama International Circuit from 25 – 26 April, while the Fujiwara Tofu Shop 86 will be participating in Odaiba’s Ogiyahagi no Aisha Henreki Festival race from 29 April to 3 May. Both will then be racing together at the All Japan Rally Championship in Ehime Prefecture from 8 – 10 May 2015.

The upcoming Shin Gekijou-ban Initial D Legend 2 -Tousou- movie meanwhile will premiere in Japan this 23 May with the races serving as a build-up to the movie’s premiere. This will be the second movie in the new reboot series, with the first one being shown in Singapore last December 2014.
