Singer-songwriter Sachiyo returns with flutist Yasukazu Kano with another instalment of Singapore Meets Japan Music Project!

Last year’s Singapore Meets Japan Music Project held at the Arts House was a resounding success, and this time, the Singapore-Japan music collaboration concert by top musicians from Singapore and Japan is coming back! Tokyo-born, Singapore-raised Sachiyo is reuniting with renowned Shinobue (Japanese Bamboo Flute) Master Yasukano Kano for another evening of music at the Blu Jaz Cafe on 28 May 2015. They are joined by Singapore “representatives” Mei Sheum on keyboard, Colin Yong on bass and Wen Ming Soh on drums, all prominent musicians in the local scene.

With a voice that is both soothing and melancholic, Sachiyo is a versatile performer singing in multiple languages (English, Chinese, Malay, Japanese) and genres (Jazz, Pop, even her own style of xinyao), performing extensively at Jazz clubs and live houses in both Singapore and Tokyo. The coming Singapore Meets Japan Music Project 2015 will feature familiar Singapore & Japanese songs spanning multiple genres, such as Pop, Jazz, and even Anime, as well as Sachiyo’s own original compositions in fresh rearrangements.

Here is a snippet from last year’s concert at the Arts House:

And one of my favourite performances, with her Singaporean band, Singapore to Tohoku Band, for “Disaster Recovery Support Project Stage” at “22nd Jozenji St. Jazz Festival in Sendai

A rendition of Rasa Sayang

And the very talented Yasukazu Kano performing his own composition KA!

If you are looking forward to more wonderful music from Sachiyo and Yasukazu Kano, do come to the Blu Jaz Cafe!
