SonyE3

To round out the first day of events at E3, Sony were determined not to be outdone by Microsoft.  They took center stage at 9am SGT to drop bombshell after bombshell. Here are the highlights of the Sony Presser.

The Last Guardian

Remember the on-again-off-again project, fronted by Team Ico and announced for the PS3 back in 2009? Well, after the delays and supposed cancellations of the game, many fans had assumed the game was never going to become a reality. But surprisingly, the Last Guardian is officially coming to PS4 next year! Game footage was shown off at the press conference and it looks amazing. Check it out for yourself down below. As expected from the team that gave us the hit game, Shadow of the Colossus,  footage from the game showcased the puzzle and platform elements found in the game.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Next up, we have Horizon: Zero Dawn a game from Guerrilla games, the guy who brought us the highly successful Killzone series.  Set in an open world, where nature has begun to reclaim the ruins of a long-forgotten civilization. Mankind has lost its place at the top of the food chain with highly advanced machinery claiming its place. Players will have to hunt these machines using primitive weaponry while unraveling the mysteries that surround them.  Essentially, this seems like yet another Monster Hunter clone, but it remains to be seen.

Hitman

Agent 47 is on his way back! Dubbed “the most ambitious Hitman game ever.” The trailer sees everyone’s favorite bald-headed, bar-coded assassin running through the snowy forest, taking out a target with a sniper rifle and wielding a silenced pistol. Not much is known about the game yet but players on the PS4 will get six unique contracts within the first year of launch and who pre-order the game will get an exclusive beta.

Street Fighter 5

Cammy and Birdie were added to the Street Fighter V roster adding to the four characters already confirmed for the new game, Ryu. Nash, M.Bison, and Chun Li. Bringing the confirmed roster to six. While Cammy’s inclusion is no surprise, Birdie has not been available since Street Fighter 3 alpha making his return all the more surprising.

Dreams

From the makers of LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway, Media Molecule, Dreams is one of the most surreal game I’ve seen in a while. Using the PS4 controller, players can sculpt the game world into anything they want it to be, and anything in the world can be manipulated and animated in almost no time at all. “The game looks like a moving painting,” said Media Molecule. One of the major aspects of the game is the ability to collaborate with other players to alter or ‘remix’ their dreams. Focusing on “making it quick, intuitive, and rewarding” to create the dreams, it is very clear that players can take the game down any direction they want to, be it very cute or very sinister. Not much else is known about the game, but the studio has promised more in the months to come.

Firewatch

One of the independent games on show at Sony’s E3 conference, Firewatch is a mystery game set in the Wyoming forest in 1989. Guided by Delilah, a puzzling voice over the walkie talkie, players will investigate unexplained occurrences as Henry. It will be up to players how much they want to trust the mysterious voice emanating from the walkie talkie. The game is scheduled for release sometime in the next year.

Destiny

Activision announced a new expansion pack for Destiny at the press conference with The Taken King.  Although nothing is confirmed at the moment, rumors surrounding the new expansion states that it will offer a new subclass and elemental super abilities for all three character classes.  The Taken King will have exclusive Playstation content coming in the form of new gear, a map and a co-op Strike.

Ronin, Mother Russia Bleeds, Crossing Souls, Eitr

Devolver Digital, the publishers of Hotline Miami, announced four new games for the PS4. Nothing much is known about the games at the moment, but the trailer below features gameplay from all four games.

World of Final Fantasy

Set for release on the PS4 and PS Vita in 2016, World of Final Fantasy will see cuter, deformed versions of classic Final Fantasy characters set out on adventures. Little is known about the gameplay is known.

Final Fantasy VII: Remake

Perhaps the biggest news on the night from Sony was the remake of Final Fantasy VII, remember the announcement at the end of last year that Final Fantasy VII was up for a reboot, but it would still retain its original graphics? Well, it looks like Square Enix had a little something extra up their sleeves all this time with the announcement that Final Fantasy VII’s remake is set to be in HD, giving an age-old classic a modern reboot with fresh graphics. Not much is known about the gameplay, but here’s hoping the game will retain its original charm.

Shenmue 3 Kickstarter

Shenmue 3 was confirmed a new Kickstarter by the series creator Yu Suzuki, and its success will be decided on by the fans. Sequel to Shenmue 1 and 2, this game looks to be the most successful game in Kickstarter history after it racked up 1.2 million dollars of its 2 million dollar target in a little over 2 hours after its announcement, and hit its target 6 hours later. Kickstarter quite literally broke as backers rushed to support the game’s development. According to the Kickstarter page, “Shenmue 3 will have familiar elements from its predecessors and new fight mechanics to achieve a new level of interactive storytelling.”  You can back the project here.

Black Ops III

The latest addition to the Call of Duty franchise will see Playstation fans enjoy downloadable content on the PS4 first. After declaring the timed exclusivity on downloadable content as well as an exclusive beta for Black Ops 3, Sony Entertainment CEO, Andrew House, claimed that the deal with Activision would continue beyond Black Ops 3.

Disney Infinity

The Star Wars Franchise is officially coming to Disney Infinity. All your favorite Star Wars characters are set to take over the Disney Infinity universe. Boba Fett will be part of the limited edition Star Wars Saga Starter Pack set that will be in stores this fall, the Star Wars Saga Starter Pack for PS4 and PS3, giving players access to the game a month ahead of player on other consoles.

Uncharted 4

Sony closed the conference with a demo of Uncharted 4. Showing off the game’s technical abilities, like the number of people it can show, destructible environments, and a meticulously designed set piece. Naughty Dog has undoubtedly outdone themselves this time around.
