Godzilla (or Gojira) may have left a trail of destruction every time he has visited Japan, but the big guy has left an indelible mark in the hearts of the Japanese people, so much so that the King of the Monsters has been officially granted Japanese citizenship as he has been recognized as a citizen residing in Shinjuku, Tokyo, an area he has frequently attacked in the movies.

The Big G was even presented with his own residency papers and was given the honor of being Shinjuku Ward’s tourism ambassador. The monster king’s residency papers were even handed out to the public as proof that Japan’s most popular Tokusatsu character is indeed a resident.

According to his residency papers, Godzilla was born on 9 April 1954, which was when the original Gojira movie premiered, which later became a worldwide hit and changed the face of the entire movie industry, which includes Hollywood. In fact, Godzilla is the only Japanese tokusatsu character with a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Godzilla will not only appear in a new Hollywood movie, but also a new Japanese movie produced by TOHO Cinemas, which also produced the original 1954 classic. In fact, it will be co-directed by Evangelion creator, Hideaki Anno himself!
