Following a highly successful run last year, Kenichi Suzumura is bringing back this series of improvisational theatre featuring an all-star line-up of seiyuus. Venues, dates, and performer match-ups were announced over a live Niconico (NicoNama) event last week.
Aptly named AD-LIVE (アドリブ ado-libu), this series will have your favourite seiyuus participating in live ad-libbing, often resulting in sometimes awkward but definitely hilarious results. For 90 minutes, expect the unexpected, as absolutely anything and everything can happen, if the AD-LIVEs from 2014 are any indication. AD-LIVE 2014 featured seiyuus including Miyano Mamoru, Yuki Kaji, Jun Fukuyama, Daisuke Ono, Takahiro Sakurai, Showtarou Morikubo, Mitsuo Iwata, and of course Kenichi Suzumura in various pair-ups.
For this year’s series, not only will audiences be treated to fresh additions to repeat participants, each pair of performers for AD-LIVE day will be joined by Chief Producer Suzumura. With now three instead of two performers at each event, we are certain to expect more madcap action and jokes flying off the cuff from these experienced seiyuu-performers. Additionally, instead of a full male line-up this time, the cast is also welcoming two ladies into the fold!
As with the AD-LIVE events last year, there will be two shows a day (afternoon and evening) for each venue, featuring different groups of performers for each day. The performer match-ups, dates and venues are:

For those not familiar with ad-lib theatre, the second half of the NicoNama event also had event host Suzumura calling out recurring performers to demonstrate or new performers to test out the format. Briefly, a card specifying the “situation” is drawn out of a box. Performers develop their own characters and react to each situation or to their partners’ prompts ad libitum, impromtu or spontaneously. Each performer will have a black bag filled with various prompts on slips of paper, which can be used at any point to generate turning points or twists to the flow. As the lines are drawn out of the “black bag” at random, this tests the performers abilities to work around often ridiculous off-beat one-liners, leading to often side-splitting results. Or when the prompt drawn out matches the situation miraculously, drawing out incredulous laughter from both audiences and performers alike. With fresh new combinations drawing upon both inexperienced and mature stage performers, it the anticipation for this year’s AD-LIVEs is running high!
There will be two rounds of ticket applications – the first is already open – before being followed by general sales. More details are available at the official website http://ad-live-project.com/.
