Some sad news from the seiyuu industry as we have now lost one veteran seiyuu who has influenced the industry in its entirety. Kazuya Tatekabe, whose legendary career includes voicing Doraemon’s resident bully, Gian, has now passed away.
The seiyuu production office, Kenyu, has posted a dedication of the legendary seiyuu on their official website:
Here is a video clip from his final recording as his most iconic character, Gian
Besides voicing Gian, Tatekabe also voiced Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex’s Colonel Tonoda, Hurricane Polymar’s Baron, Fairy Tail’s Roubaul, and The Legend of the Galactic Heroes’ Chan. He passed away at the ripe old age of 80 due to acute respiratory failure.
To the family and friends of the late voice acting legend, who he has been an inspiration to, we would like to give them our condolences
