Neon Genesis Evangelion is celebrating its 20th anniversary, while the JR West Sanyou Shinkansen line is celebrating its 40th anniversary, so why not let the two celebrants get together and have a amazing collaboration of their own?
The two celebrants are teaming up for a new Evangelion Bullet Train dubbed the “500 Type Eva Project.” It will feature a special bullet train wrapped in the Eva-01’s signature colors and will be traveling between Hakata Station in the city of Fukuoka to Shin-Osaka Station in Osaka.
Evangelion’s director, the legendary Hideaki Anno, and mechanical designer Ikuto Yamashita, have both supervised the designs for the train, which also include an Evangelion-themed interior.
The “500 Type Eva Project” will be running from mid-autumn 2015 all the way until March 2017, so there is plenty of time to catch these trains when visiting Japan. Special events and limited edition collaboration items during the time of its implementation.
And with that, there is only one thing left to say, “Get in the damn train, Shinji!”
