The Space Battleship Yamato franchise is considered one of the most loved science-fiction series, and fans have plenty of reasons to rejoice as its remake anime, Space Battleship Yamato 2199, have announced that a new sequel is being developed.
Space Battleship Yamato 2199 producer Shoji Nishizaki recently sat down for an interview with the official Space Battleship Yamato fanclub magazine, Yamato Crew Kaihou, and he revealed that the anime’s sequel is in fact in development. However, he added that “production will not be officially green-lit until after the end of the year.” The interview can be found in issue #11 of this year’s magazine.
While it has not yet been officially green-lit yet, the fact that the anime is already in development as mentioned by its producer has made many Yamato fans very excited indeed. So will this sequel be a TV series, or would this be released as a video like the original 2199 anime? Or will this be a movie? We won’t know just yet.
Space Batlleship Yamato 2199 is a remake of the classic Japanese animation created by Leiji Matsumoto and Yoshinobu Nishizaki back in 1974. It was later released in North America in 1979, where it was renamed Star Blazers.
