With Singapore’s Golden Jubilee, many Singaporeans will be looking back at our country’s big growth through the years, not only surviving but prospering. However as a fan of anime and Japan pop-culture, we would like to see our country getting some recognition in the anime we love, so here are 7 times that Singapore has been mentioned in anime.

  1. Cowboy Bebop

One of the characters from this popular anime, Cowboy Bebop, Faye Valentine has been suggested to be a Singaporean and seeing from the various landmarks you can spot, it definitely fills you up with some of that National Pride

  1. Cardfight Vanguard

A popular card game among many Singaporean youths, the anime Cardfight Vangaurd did not just have a scene but an entire episode of the characters traveling to Singapore!

  1. Jojo Bizarre Adventures

The adventures of Jojo has led them to Singapore, a fine ‘city’ and I’m sure many Jojo fans found it amazing that our small red dot of an island to be featured in such a popular anime.

  1. Psycho Pass

Singapore isn’t expressly mentioned in the latest Pyscho Pass movie, but the mention of a South-east Asia Union and a character named Nicholas Wong. With a name like that, it isn’t hard to guess where he is from. In fact I believe that I know a Nicholas Wong myself.

Finally, we can never forget that Singapore is also home to the biggest anime event in South-east Asia, Anime Festival Asia Singapore, where we can see all of our favourite anime, cosplayers and seiyuu. So happy birthday Singapore and may we get to see more of our dear country in anime and manga. Did we leave out any others? Feel free to let us know!
