Studio Ghibli co-founder, Academy Award winner, Japanese animation icon, environmentalist, and world-renowned filmmaker, Hayao Miyazaki, is someone who many people look up to. Without a dount, his films have influenced many around the world. One fan creates a moving tribute video to the legendary Miyazaki, and does it in glorious 8-bit fashion.

The short features Miyazaki’s classics, including My Neighbor Totoro, his Academy Award-winning Spirited Away, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, and many more. The video shows several Ghibli characters gathering and paying homage to their creator.

This whimsical parade of Ghibli characters was created by filmmaker, Pablo Fernandez Eyre, and a chiptune version of the “Reprise” from Spirited Away playing in the background makes the tribute video all the more complete as it fittingly ends at Hayao Miyazaki’s front door.

If that video did not induce a tear in any Ghibli fan’s eye, I don’t know what will.
