On Konami’s official YouTube page, they have uploaded a ten minute video titled Debriefing: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (MGSV). This 10 minute video features creator of the Metal Gear series, Hideo Kojima, who has recently went over to America to visit some of the people he have worked with over the creation of not just MGSV, but the series as a whole.

In this video you can see some famous names in the games industry, as well as the film industry. At the same time, he has been visiting a couple of big name game stores around Tokyo to celebrate the launch of the game which was released yesterday. Here’s the video:

Personally, I’ve been a Metal Gear fan ever since I first picked up a game magazine that came with a demo of Metal Gear Solid 2 many years ago. It has been almost 12-13 ever since that day and boy, I’ll never forget that feeling of hiding and sneaking around to get to my objectives for the very first time. While the core mechanic of the game has not changed, the scale is so much more grander now in MGSV. On top of that, his games always had somewhat of a unique essence in them, mixing fourth wall-breaking humor, crazy technology far beyond the game’s time, ridiculously long cutscenes which I’ve grown to love and a well-written tale (and quite so in MGS2) all wrapped up with a neat little “A Hideo Kojima Game” ribbon that is Metal Gear.

It was thanks to his game that led me to end up learning Japanese many years later, being a fan of seiyuus (thanks in part to Akio Ohtsuka), as well as making all sorts of friends due to our common interest in Kojima-san and MGS. In fact, I probably wouldn’t even be here writing this article right now if I hadn’t had played MGS2 all those years ago. So for that, and many other innumerable things, Thank You Hideo Kojima.

Kojima smile

I will be reviewing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain sometime next week before Tokyo Game Show starts in 2 weeks. Look forward to both our MGSV review and our 4 day TGS coverage!
