Yuki Suetsugu’s Chihayafuru manga is getting two live-action movies slated for 2016, and the live-action adaptation has finally revealed the movies’ first visuals. It features Chihaya Ayase (played by Suzu Hirose), however, fans of the manga might recognize that it really looks a bit familiar…
The new visual is actually inspired by the manga’s second tankoubon compilation release, which features Chihaya Ayase in the cover with some of the manga’s signature autumn colors.
Hirose admitted that playing Chihaya is such an honor and was thrilled when she finally saw the new visual. Here are the two images side by side with one another:
The first film is titled Chihayafuru: Kami no Ku, and it is slated to premiere on March 2016, while the second movie, titled Chihayafuru: Shimo no Ku, will be shown in Japanese cinemas one month later in April 2016.
The movies will star Suzu Hirose as the titular Chihaya, while Taichi Mashima will be played by Shuuhei Nomura. Arata Wataya meanwhile will be played by Mackenyu, and the film will be directed by Norihiro Koizumi.
