Japanese telecommunications company, Softbank, is launching a new series of TV ads which will feature several classic anime characters to promote their cell phone network starting 20 October.

So far, Sailor Moon, Obocchama-kun, Astro Boy, Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star), Golgo 13, Joe Yabuki (Ashita no Joe), and Maruko-chan (Chibi Maruko-chan) have been the ones who have been confirmed. Also joining the TV ads is Softbank’s white dog mascot Otosan. The ads will revolve around the Moon Ribar (a play on the classic song, Moon River), which will be run by Sailor Moon herself, Usagi Tsukino, played by Tokyo Sonata’s Kyoko Koizumi, who is a bit disappointed that there will be no “henshin” or transformation scene. The bar will then feature a variety of “somewhat strange patrons”.

Gee, I wonder who these “somewhat strange patrons” are? The first ad will last approximately one minute and will be broadcast starting on 20 October at 8:53 pm JST.
