The Tokyo International Film Festival is Japan’s most illustrious and renowned international film festival, which celebrates not only local cinema, but films from all over the globe. This year, the festival will introduce a brand new award called the “Arigato Award”, which is given to individuals with “contributions to the Japanese film industry.”

The recipients for this new award have also been announced, and they are led by none other than renowned anime director, Mamoru Hosoda, whose latest film, The Boy and the Beast, was widely received by film critics. Hosoda is known for classic Japanese animated feature films such as Summer Wars, Wolf Children, and The Girl who Leapt Through Time.

The award will be given to the winners on the final day of the film festival, which will have an awarding ceremony on 31 October 2015. The event will kick-off on 22 October and will also feature a tribute to Mobile Suit Gundam.
