Alice in Tokyo #1 Tokyo Cruise (CanonOfficial) - YouTube - Google Chrome 2015-10-22 17.25.30

Alice recently went photo-taking in the wonderland known as Tokyo. In five surreal episodes, director Takumi Shiga led Alice into a Tokyo both familiar(to us) yet different, showcasing the functions of the various type of lenses. All while chasing after the White Rabbit.

The best parts about this videos? They feature some of the most accessible lenses that beginners to Hobbyist can afford.

Episode 1:

The telephoto or Telephoto Zoom lens, to help you “close-up” the distance between you and your subject. Perfect for that Candid moment or even portraits.  There are better models for them to feature, like the world famous “red ring 70-200mm(EF70-200mm f/2.8L USM)” but here she is holding onto a EF-S55-250mm( f/4-5.6 IS STM) typically available as a Kit Lens in the 2 lens sets sold by Canon.

Talk about affordable, you can get this for S$399 if you didn’t get that kit option. The other episodes in the series kinda follows the concept!

Episode 2:

But what if the subject is closer to you but just kinda small? Like the figurine or nendoroid on your table? Macro to the rescue!
Featured is the EF-S60mm f/2.8 Macro USM.

Episode 3:

Ultra-wide!! Cover more people in that party photo.
Featured is the EF-S10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM. Also less than a thousand bucks!

Episode 4:

One of my favourite and something everyone should get for portraiture.
The EF50mm f/1.8 STM is the newer model that was recently released by Canon but it’s fast, quiet and quite affordable. One more thing, compared to the other lenses featured above, this one is a EF lens, meaning – Should you upgrade to the Full frame range(6D, 5D, 5D Mark III, 5DS) of the DSLR body, you can bring it along!

Episode 5:

EF8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM – To tell the truth, this lens is not very affordable. But It’s still one of the most interesting available, with an even wider angle than the ultra wide angle lenses. A lens people goto for a new preceptive on things. Not to mention thanks to Canon’s superb engineering, the quality is unmatched!

If you can, you should loan it for a weekend and have some fun with it. ;D
