The two live-action movie adaptations of Yuki Suetsugu’s bestselling Chihayafuru manga are finally getting shown next year, and TOHO’s official youtube channel is teasing fans with a new trailer. The PV introduces us to Chihaya and the game of Karuta.
The movies will star Suzu Hirose as the titular Chihaya, while Taichi Mashima will be played by Shuuhei Nomura. Arata Wataya meanwhile will be played by Mackenyu, and the film will be directed by Norihiro Koizumi.Additional cast members include Yuuki Morinaga as Tsutomu Kumano, Yuuma Yamato as Yuusei Nishida, Mone Kamishiraishi as Kanade Ooe, Jun Kunimura as Harada, Mayu Matsuoka as Shinobu Wakamiya, Miyuki Matsuda as Taeko Miyauchi, Hiroya Shimizu as Akihito Sudou, and Ryoutarou Sakaguchi as Hiro Kinashi.
The first film is titled Chihayafuru: Kami no Ku, and it is slated to premiere on March 2016. The second movie, titled Chihayafuru: Shimo no Ku, will be shown in Japanese cinemas one month later in April 2016. As revealed earlier, the movie’s key visual image is inspired by the manga‘s second Tankoubon volume.
