Neon Genesis Evangelion and the JR West Sanyou Shinkansen line are celebrating their 20th and 40th anniversaries respectively this year. As the two will be launching their Shinkansen Evangelion Project together this 7 November, new details about the 500-type EVA train have been revealed.
While the exterior of the train in inspired by Eva Unit 01, the interior of the train’s first carriage will be serving as an exhibition room which will contain a Shinkansen x Evangelion panel art, a photo area, a diorama display, and a life-sized cockpit.
Fans can even get to sit on the cockpit, but they must first enter an online lottery one month to three days before their departure date. Travel agencies will also be offering special itineraries to book tickets just to get to sit on the pilot’s seat, and it looks like everyone but Shinji wants to get inside the damn robot.
The second carriage meanwhile has unreserved seats which contain an Eva-theme, while the door panels, windows, and floor are inspired by NERV.
The “500 Type Eva Project” will be running from mid-autumn 2015 all the way until March 2017, so there is plenty of time to catch these trains when visiting Japan. Special events and limited edition collaboration items during the time of its implementation. Here are the schedules for the train’s journeys:
