The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the prestigious organization handing out the movie industry’s most coveted and illustrious award, the Oscars or Academy Awards, has announced the entries who will be considered as their nominees, including those for Best Animated Feature Film. A total of 16 animated feature films have been nominated, including three from Japanese animation.

Just being nominated is an honor in of itself, and the three Japanese animated films vying for that nomination are Studio Ghibli’s When Marnie Was There, Mamoru Hosoda’s The Boy and the Beast, and Ryuho Okawa’s The Laws of the Universe part 0.

So far, only Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away has been able to win this prestige. Will any of the three Japanese entrees win it next year? But first, which one will get that coveted Oscar nomination? We will find out soon enough as the Oscars will be held next year on February 28, 2016.
