It’s a tradition in the Macross franchise to marry the elements of anime musicals and giant transforming robots, and the latest anime is certainly no different as it will focus on the “tactical sound unit” known as Walküre, who are not only Valkyrie pilots, but idols as well. In the tradition of Lynn Minmay (Super Dimension Fortress Macross), Fire Bomber (Macross 7), and Ranka Lee and Sheryl Nome (Macross Frontier), the official website has now revelaed the five members of Walküre:

Freyja Wion (CV: Minori Suzuki)
Age: 14
Freyja is born in the frontiers of the galaxy, and she dreams of becoming an idol by joining Walküre.

Mikumo Guynemer
Age: unknown
The main vocalist of Walküre, she is surrounded by mystery as not much is known about her.

Kaname Buccaneer
Age: 22
The oldest member of the group, she acts as the big sister figure to everyone

Makina Nakajima
Age: 18
The group’s resident ditz, she is not only an idol, but also serves as their squad’s mechanic.

Reina Prowler
Age: 15
Walküre’s resident kuudere, she does not show her emotions much. She is also considered to be a genius hacker.

The website also reveals two of the Valkyries which will be featured in the anime:

VF-31 Siegfried

Sv-262 Draken III

Walküre, which is the franchise’s first all-female idol group, will be the series’ spiritual successor to the franchise’s legendary fictional musical acts, like Lynn Minmay (Macross), Fire Bomber (Macross 7), and Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee (Macross Frontier). It will comprise of five members, including Freyja Wion, voiced by 18-year-old Minori Suzuki from Aichi Prefecture, a rookie seiyuu who won the audition/ contest searching for the next Macross star. The other members will be revealed later, probably in the New Year special, which will air in Japan on 31 December.

Macross Delta is set 18 years after the events of Macross Frontier and follows the five-member tactical musical unit “Walküre,” which will comprise of the anime’s five main girls, including Freyja Wion. The anime will also feature the  “Aerial Chivalry Order,” a mysterious Valkyrie unit which begins its operations at the same time as “Walküre.”
