The very first issue of Weekly Shounen Jump! magazine for 2016 has one very big announcement regarding One Piece – the movie for next year will be called One Piece Film Gold and will premiere in Japanese theaters on 23 July 2016!
This will be the first One Piece film since 2012’s One Piece Film Z, which had the series’ very own mangaka, Eiichiro Oda, as the executive producer and credited with the original work. Oda returns as both the executive producer and creator for One Piece Film Gold.
The movie is in good hands with Hiroaki Miyamoto (One Piece episodes 352-679) at the helm of the project as the director over at Toei Animation. He will be teaming up with Tsutomu Kuroiwa (live-action Black Butler movie), who will be in-charge of writing the scripts.
Pre-sale tickets for One Piece Film Gold will open on 18 December, with issue #2 of Weekly Shounen Jump! magazine announcing the bonus extras for those who purchase these tickets.
