A leaked magazine scan taken from the second issue of Young Animal magazine, has announced that Chika Umino’s multi-award winning, critically-acclaimed, and bestselling manga, March Comes in Like a Lion, is getting a very much-deserved TV anime adaptation.


According to the scan, the one which will be bearing the responsibility of animating this beloved manga will be Shaft. They wll be putting Akiyuki Shinbo (Madoka Magica, Bakemonogatari, Nisekoi) at the helm of this project as the director, so prepare for a whole lot of head-tilting. The scan also revealed that this new TV anime will be broadcast via NHK.

Created by Honey & Clover mangaka, Chika Umino, the manga has not only garnered lots of praise of from critics, but it has also been a regular fixture in the many manga sales rankings in Japan. The series has also won plenty of awards, including the Grand Prize for the 2014 edition of the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prizes, the 2011 Manga Taisho Award, and the 2011 Kodansha Manga Award. The manga follows a professional Shougi player named Rei, who is mourning the loss of his family. As he is mourning, he befriends a family comprised of three sisters, Akari, Hinata, and Momo, and their cats… lots and lots of them! The three sisters (and their cats) help him heal and open up.
