Bandai is giving traditional Japanese sake cups a Gundam twist, as they have revealed two cups bearing the head designs of the RX-78-2 Gundam and the Zaku II, and they are being called the Gundam Guinomi sake cups.

Each cup is made with 100% tin, and will cost 8,424 yen. But why such a price for just one tin cup? This is because each cup is handcrafted in the traditional casting techniques used in Takaoka City in Toyama Prefecture. These techniques date back to Japan’s Edo period (1603–1868), and has been recognized as one of Japan’s traditional crafts.

What makes these cups even more special is the fact that the original Gundam mecha designer, Kunio Okawara, supervised their construction himself.

Each cup also comes with a traditional Japanese wooden box to complete that authentic feel. Now you can enjoy your sake the Gundam way!
