In Japanese culture, the number two has long been associated with cats, and it is no surprise that the 22nd day of the second month, or 22 February (22/2), has been designated as “Cat Day,” for Neko no Hi.

The day has been designated in celebration of cats since 1987 by the Japan Pet Food Association, as reading the date, 22/2, has often sounded like “Nyan Nyan Nyan,” which is what a cat sounds like according to Japanese. Cats are really popular in Japan, and sure enough, some series have decided to celebrate the occassion.

Bekated Happy Cat Day everyone!
