[ANIME] Gundam Unicorn RE:0096 to air in April!

Hot off the presses is news that acclaimed Gundam OVA series, Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, will be getting a TV adaptation from April 3rd onwards. Titled Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096, it will be airing on TV Asahi networks from April 3rd onwards every Sunday for 2 cours. This will be the first time in 20 years that Gundam will be airing during that timeslot since After War Gundam X! The original cast will be reprising their roles for this TV series as well. Famous voice actor for Char Aznable, Shuichi Ikeda, who also did the voice for Full Frontal, will be in charge of the narration of the series and the next episode previews!

As mentioned earlier, Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096 will be a remaster of the original Gundam Unicorn OVAs to fit a television audience. The series it set to span 24-25 episodes according to web releases. The original OVAs ran for a total of around 390 minutes while a 2 cour anime season would run around 600 minutes in total. Could we be seeing new original content from the Gundam Unicorn manga series? Perhaps some of the MSV contents will be making it way over to this TV version? I guess we’ll have to wait and see in April to find out!

At the same time, Hiroyuki Sawano is also announced to be working on the Opening and Ending themes for the TV series.

Hiroyuki Sawano will be producing both OP and ED themes under his SawanoHiroyuki[nZk] vocal project. An entirely new song, Into the Sky, will serve as the OP theme song and sang by Tielle, a new vocalist who won a Hiroyuki Sawano audition project. The first ED theme will be Next 2 U -eUC- by vocalist naNami. The second ED theme, bL∞dy f8 -eUC- will be sang by Aimer, who has also contributed RE:I AM and StarRingChild for the Gundam Unicorn OVA series.

The CD will retail on 29th June with a CD version going for 1250 yen, a limited editon with a sepcial Gundam Unicorn cover for 1,500 yen. A First Print edition CD plus DVD which will contain footage from Sawano’s third live, nZk003 will be retailing for 2037 yen.

I hope you’re excited for Gundam Unicorn RE:0096! I really loved Unicorn so I’m down for more Unicorn! Hopefully they will not be so rough on the Gunpla end at least.
