When we think of Sumire Uesaka, we often think of her roles in military-themed anime like Bucky Fubuki in Kantai Collection, or Nonna and Piyotann from Girls und Panzer. However, when she attended the “Majo no Himitsu Ten” (The Secrets of Witches) exhibition at the Laforet Museum Harajuku in Tokyo, she showed that she has another side to her, other than that military dream girl who loves tanks and ships.

Of course, Uesaka is no stranger to witches, having voiced Kikko in Concrete Revolutio, and she talked about her role during the event:

The witch I play has the elements of classical cuteness, mystery, and clumsiness, The witch I play has the elements of classical cuteness, mystery, and clumsiness”

Though she also admitted that learned a lot more about witches through the exhibit, and the dark side they represent. She then admitted that she has a bit of a sadistic side in her, and said that she was very interested in the instruments of torture on display, especially an instrument known as the choke pear, which was “inserted into the mouth or other orifices and forcibly expanded.” OUCH! When asked if she was interested in torturing someone, she shared: “But I grew up and realized that you need money for torture.” She then talked about her favorite torture item and said “It’s terrifying, It’s a device you can carry with you, so you can commit torture anytime.”

The exhibition takes a look at witches from history, as well as how they are portrayed in media from works like Sugar Sugar Rune, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, Fairy Tail, Magimoji Rurumo, Maria the Virgin Witch, and Flying Witch. It features items loaned from over 30 countries, including Germany, Austria and France, and is currently being held at the Laforet Museum Harajuku until 13 March.
