Yes, you’ve read the title right, Funassyi, Funabashi City’s unofficial pear mascot, is going to do what many Japanese artistes are still dreaming of doing. That is, he will be holding a concert inside the hallowed halls of the Nippon Budoukan!

And yes ladies and gentlemen, this is not an April Fools’ joke… though it was announced last 1 April during a LINE live broadcast.

Called the Funassyi Summer Festival 2016 – Nashisai NASSYI FES. ~(『ふなっしー夏祭り2016 ~梨祭 NASSYI FES.~』), the Budoukan concert will be held on 23 August. After that, Funassyi will be holding another concert on 29 August at the Osaka-Jou Hall in Osaka.

For those wondering if Funassyi could hold a concert in the hallowed ground of Japanese music, the Yuru-chara mascot actually has two singles and one album (which reached #4 in the Oricon charts) already out. Though it did admit that it doesn’t yet have enough material to do a 90-minute concert during the live broadcast, which announced that it is going to the Budoukan.

Funassyi will be the very first Yuru-chara mascot to get a Budoukan concert, which has been a long time coming, as the lovable pear from Chiba Prefecture once said that it wanted to perform at the Budoukan back in 2013. Fast forward three years to now, and the mascot’s dream has finally come true!

Congratulations yellow guy!
