The Cameras Featured in the Tamayura Series

You might have seen many cameras in the Tamayura anime series, but do you know that they exist in real life?

Just like how the okonomiyaki shop, the watch shop as well as the various places of Okinawa, Kanagawa, Seto Inland Sea and Hiroshima featured in the show exist in real life.

We won’t talk about the real life places featured in this series, a quick google search would be enough to satisfy your curiosity about those. In this post, we will talk about the cameras featured in the series. Maybe you’d want to get an identical one after reading this post.

There are many types of cameras (Rangefinder, DSLR, SLR, TLR, Viewfinder, Compact, Point & Shoot) featured, but to make it simpler for everyone, it’ll be categorised simply into two categories, Film and Digital.

A 35mm film SLR from 1959. The Nikon F has interchangeable prisms, the one featured in the anime has the eyelevel prism. If you want to start out with a film SLR, get this or the Nikon F2 or FM2. They’re fully mechanical cameras, fully functional without batteries! (Batteries are for the built in light meter.)

That’s it for the identifiable cameras in Tamayura, quite a lot isn’t it?
The depiction of the cameras in the anime is also highly detailed, quite impressive. From the screens/rears of the cameras to the details in the viewfinder of the D700 and of course the exterior of the cameras. Much accuracy.

By the way, there was a scene of Potte loading a roll of film into her 35S, the film looks extremely similar to the currently in production Fujifilm Pro 400H. Except the one in the anime has some colours swapped and letters changed.
