It sure does look quite familiar… a hint perhaps? OK, the hint is in the manga, and to be exact, the cover of the manga’s very first Tankoubon compilation volume:

So if the poster is promising to be loyal to the manga, then better bring lots of tissues, because tears are certainly going to fall. Based on Naoshi Arakawa’s critically acclaimed musical manga, the movie will star Kento Yamazaki (Live-action Death Note TV series’ L) as Kousei Arima, a genius pianist who has fallen out of grace since the death of his mother. He will be starring alongside Suzu Hirose (live-action Chihayafuru’s Chihaya) as Kaori Miyazono, a perky violinist whose cheerful and outgoing demeanour is hiding something tragic.

Playing Kousei’s tomboyish childhood friend and softball club ace, Tsubaki Sawabe, will be Anna Ishii, who is a J-pop star and is a member of the all-girl group E-Girls. And finally, completing Kousei’s childhood friends trio is Taishi Nakagawa, who previously appeared in Ao Oni 2.0 as Hiroshi. Nakagawa, will be playing Kousei’s best friend and football club ace, Ryouta Watari.

Both the manga adaptation and the anime adaptation have been well received by fans and critics alike, and both mediums have drawn tears from both viewers and readers. Hence, this live-action movie adaptation is promising to leave audiences in tears as well. Hirose studied how to play a violin, while Yamazaki studied how to play a piano prior to filming to really draw out the skill of the two musicians.
