Masataka Kubota, who played Light Yagami in the live-action Death Note TV drama as Light Yagami, is the one chosen to play Ken Kaneki, the boy who is turned into a half-ghoul after he gets caught in an accident and is transplanted with organs from a ghoul. Meanwhile, the female lead, Touka Kirishima, a female ghoul, will be played by Fumika Shimizu. Fans might know her as Aiko Himeno from the live-action Hentai Kamen movie.

Principal filming for this movie will begin in July and will wrap-up in September, with Kentarou Hagiwara leading the staff as the director.

The original Tokyo Ghoul manga, which ran for 14 volumes, is written and illustrated by Sui Ishida. It received two highly-popular anime adaptations, as well as a sequel manga with Tokyo Ghoul:re, which is currently being serialized, as well as various spin-offs and OVAs. The series follows Ken Kaneki, an ordinary boy who suddenly became transplanted with organs from a ghoul who attacked him, thus making him a half-ghoul and half-human hybrid, and must eat human flesh in order to sustain his life.

So, what do you guys think of this new live-action movie adaptation? Would Masataka Kubota be a good choice to play Kaneki? Would it stay loyal to the original source manga? Would this be a good one or a bad adaptation? Only time will tell.
