Makoto Shinkai is one of Japan’s most respected animation diretors, and his latest film is generating a lot of buzz. Titled “your name.”, the film is slated to hit Japanese theaters this 26th August, and the official TOHO Movie channel has started streaming a new trailer, which introduces us to the film’s two protagonists.

A shorter version was also released, and like the trailer above, it also features the anime film’s theme song, “Zen Zen Zense” by J-Rock band, RADWIMPS.

Best known for beautifully animated works like Voices of a Distant Star, The Garden of Words, and 5 Centimeters Per Second, Makoto Shinkai has made a name for himself with animated feature films. Kimi No Na Wa. will be the 42-year old director’s first new work since his critically-acclaimed Garden of Words. The film promises to be a “tale of love and miracles”, which will bring together Mitsuha Miyamizu, a girl living in a rural mountain area with her father, sister, and grandmother, and Taki Tachibana, a boy living in the bustling city streets of Tokyo. The two have never met, but have become connected by a dream of one another.

Last year, Shinkai announced that he was working on a new film, and a year later, this is what he was working on. But he won’t be alone in this stunning new film, as Masashi Ando, who has worked on Ghibli films such as Spirited Away and When Marnie Was There, will be serving as his animation director, with AnoHana’s Masayoshi Tanaka doing the character designs. It is scheduled to hit cinemas in Japan starting 26 August 2016.
