During the MF Bunko Festival event, it was announced that the 22nd and final volume for the late Noboru Yamaguchi’s hit fantasy light novel series, The Familiar of Zero, will be released on 24 February 2017. The novel will be based on the manuscripts that the late author left before his passing back in 2013.

While original illustrator, Eiji Usatsuka, will be returning to illustrate the final volume, Kadokawa has chosen not to reveal the writer. According to them, “If we reveal the name of the new writer, that will cause preconceptions among the readers. We want them to purely enjoy the story.”

MF Bunko has admitted that many fans have been asking them to continue the series even after Yamaguchi passed away. Volume 20 of The Familiar of Zero was released back in February 2011, and it went on hiatus due to the author’s health. Yamaguchi had planned for 22 volumes and was determined to finish all 22 volumes before he passed away. Unfortunately, he was not able to fulfil his wish and left behind a few manuscripts about the fate of Louise, Saito, Tiffania, Siesta, and the rest of the gang.

Meanwhile, an audio book for Vol. 1 of the light novel series will also be released. Guess who will be the one reading it? That’s right, the “Queen of Tsundere” herself, Rie Kugimiya, is returning to The Familiar of Zero to voice the Audio Book. In the anime, “Queen Rie” voices the main heroine, Louise, who is also considered one of the “Four Queens of Tsundere,” along with hayate the Combat Butler!’s Nagi, Shakugan no Shana’s Shana, and Toradora’s Taiga. All four are voiced by Kugimiya.
