The fourth and final Rebuild of Evangelion movie, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0, was announced in 2012, and halfway through 2016, the movie is still delayed leaving many fans fustrated. However, during a press conference for Godzilla: Resurgence, Evangelion creator, Hideaki Anno, who is also the new Godzilla movie’s co-director made some surprising comments.

Anno

The press in attendance were actually asked not to ask questions regarding Evangelion, but Anno surprised everyone by talking about it. In his statement, Anno apologized about the delay, and admitted that he knows that fans have been waiting for the new movie for a very long time now.

The director then said that “Evangelion is my soul,” and explained that working on Eva “scrapes a bit at my soul.” He then stated that the third film, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, was the most stressful one of them all. He then said that getting to direct Godzilla: Resurgence “saved” him, and said that he can now continue to work on Evangelion thanks to the King of Monsters.

Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone was shown in 2007, and it was followed by Evangelion: 2.0 You Can [Not] Advance in 2009, and then Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo.  Meanwhile, Godzilla: Resurgence will premiere this 29th July in Japan.
