Though Red Turtle has failed to win at the Cannes Film Festival, the Studio Ghibli film did impress one of the world’s most famous and well-loved animators. In a press conference, retired Studio Ghibli producer, Toshio Suzuki, has revealed that the Michael Dudok de Wit-directed movie has inspired the legendary director, Hayao Miyazaki, and makes him want to go back working.

The now-retired director met with director Michael Dudok de Wit earlier this week and praised his work. Suzuki said that while watching Red Turtle, Miyazaki commented that he wants to start working again and do something with the Ghibli staff. However, when Suzuki reminded him that he’s now retired, Miyazaki just said that he (Suzuki) shouldn’t take that comment seriously and they were just his own idle wishes.

Miyazaki retired from doing feature-length anime films back in 2013, though he still makes a few animated shorts for the Ghibli Museum every now and then. Just can’t get enough, can’t you, Hayao Miyazaki? But if he were actually serious, I wonder what his next movie would actually be?
