Paramount Pictures is adapting the Japanese classic, Ghost in the Shell, into a live-action Hollywood movie. Directed by Rupert Sanders, with Scarlett Johansson playing “The Major”, Paramount has released five new clips from the upcoming film.

The film has divided many fans outside of Japan, mainly because of the choice of actress to play “The Major”. Fans were disappointed that Major Motoko Kusanagi (who is an Asian in the original series) is being played by Scarlett Johansson instead (whom is caucasian). However, the actual Japanese people have been noted that they actually really don’t care whether an Asian or White actress would play the lead role, and were generally happy that the franchise has gotten the attention of Hollywood.

The film is based on Mamoru Oshii’s futuristic manga, and boasts an international cast, which of course includes a few Japanese actors like Beat Takeshi, who is part of the movie as Daisuke Aramaki.
