After voicing many legendary characters and participating in Japan’s so-called 90’s seiyuu boom, which launched the careers of many popular and legendary seiyuu, industry veteran, Tomo Sakurai is calling it a career as she announces her retirement on her own personal blog.

Tomo Sakurai

Having a good voice is what is important in the industry, but Sakurai has admitted that after three decades in the voice acting industry, she has found it more difficult to use her voice, and that is the reason why she is retiring. She also announced that she will stop updating her blog due to her retirement.

Sakurai first gained a name for herself in Macross 7, where she voiced Mylene Flare Jenius, the series’ main heroine, as well as the aunt of Macross Delta heroine, Mirage Farina Jenius. She then went on to voice Misao Makimachi in Rurouni Kenshin, and also had several roles in other classic anime, such as Marin in Akazukin Chacha, Sjayla-Shayla in El Hazard, and most recently, Mumei’s mother in Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress.

We wish her well in her retirement and thank her for voicing all those unforgettable characters.
