Japanese newspaper publications, Mainichi Shimbun and Sports Nippon Shimbun, have announced the results for theirĀ 71st Mainichi Awards. Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi’s Shin Godzilla won the night’s most prestigious prize, the Best Japanese Movie award. However, the film that dominated it in the Japanese box office was Makoto Shinkai’s your name, which had won the Best Animation award.

But the Makoto Shinkai masterpiece didn’t just win one award, it won two. The film also won theĀ TSUTAYAxFilmarks Movie Fan Award in the Japanese Film category. Fans voted for the winner of this category, provingĀ just how popular the film really is.

Meanwhile,Ā Sunao Katabuchi’s In This Corner of the World film won three awards. These include the Japanese Movie Award of Excellence, as well as theĀ Best Music award forĀ kotringo’s soundtrack for the film. It also won theĀ Noburou Oofuji Award, whichĀ the two newspapers give to works which show “new forms of creative expression.”

The newspapers will be holding an awarding ceremony for the winners on 15th February. ItĀ will be held onĀ at the Muza Kawasaki Symphony Hall in Kawasaki city.
