It’s Valentine’s Day — and just like every other international holiday that the Japanese choose to celebrate, they do it with their own style and flair! Valentine’s is the day when Japanese girls give special chocolates to the objects of their affections, and anime fans are clearly not immune to this tradition.

Not surprisingly, Victor Nikiforov from Yuri!!! on Ice tops the list — the dashing and handsome Russian skater is from the previous season’s female fan favorite anime. Although we have it in good authority that he is engaged — and to the series lead Yuuri Katsuki, this hasn’t stopped fans from fantasizing about him being their Valentine sweetheart.

The survey also includes a list of characters that people would like to receive chocolates from. It’s interesting to note that this list includes not just girls (as is tradition), but boys as well!

Handsome sword-boy (sword-man?) Shokudaikiri Mitsutada probably tops the list not just because of his good looks but also because of his caring, domesticated streak. Nico Yazawa tops the females in the list, and is proof that fans are not quite over µ’s just yet. Rounding out the top three is — you guessed it, Victor Nikiforov from Yuri!!! on Ice. He is clearly the guy to envy this Valentine’s 2017!

Do you agree or disagree with the Japanese list? We’re doing our own survey here at WOW Japan, and will release the results by White Day on 14th March!
