Pokemon Go players sometimes risk their safety to catch that extra Pokemon. In some extreme instances, some players ended up dead while others attracted robbers and thieves. And yes, some also got hit by a car. However, The Pokémon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara says they are aiming to make players safer.

In an interview with Nikkei, Ishihara stated that they are aiming to make players safer. To do this, they are currently looking into developing a device to aid in player safety. His full statement reads:

We intended to make a game for people to play outdoors, instead of at home. The potential that players could become too involved in playing the game [that they might walk into danger] was already an issue at an early stage.

To avoid the danger, we also released “Pokemon Go Plus,” the smartphone-linked wearable device, so that “Pokemon Go” players do not have to always be looking down at their smartphone screens. Together with Nintendo, we are thinking of developing a new device that can be played more safely.

There you have it folks, straight from the horse’s mouth. Hopefully, they can make it safer not just for Pokemon Go players, but also for people who are paying too much attention to their smartphones to even notice that incoming truck…
