The Nippon Academy-Sho Association held the awarding ceremony for their e 40th annual Japan Academy Prizes last Sunday. Considered Japan’s equivalent of the Academy Awards, the prize stands as Japan’s most prestigious award in film.

One of the biggest awards handed last Sunday is Best Animation, and Sunao Katabuchi’s In This Corner of the World won that award. They overcame favorite your name, as well as other films to win the prize. Director Katabuchi himself accepted the award.

While they didn’t win Best Animation, Makoto Shinkai’s your name did win multiple awards. They won both Screenplay of the Year and Outstanding Achievement in Music for RADWIMPS. They also won the fan award called the All Night Nippon Wadai-Shou prize.

Meanwhile, Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi won the Best Director Award. The two directors won the award for the movie they co-directed, Shin Godzilla.
