Renowned mecha designer, Kunio Okawara originally hailed from Inagi City, and his hometown is proud of him. So proud that they even set up 1/5 scale statues of the RX-78-2 Gundam and Char’s Zaku II.

But Ikawara is not just the mecha designer behind the original Gundam, he also designed Yatterman’s Yatter-Wan. And as expected, the city is also making a statue of the dog mecha as well.

They will install the statue, which measures 2m in height, right outside of Minami-Tama Station. They will then hold a new opening ceremony in honour of Kunio Okawara to unveil the statue

Seiyuu Koichi Yamadera, who voiced Yatter-Wan, will also be attending the event. Aside from Yatter-Wan, they will also be installing a 1.7m-tall statue of their local town mascot, Inagi Nashinosuke Tokeidai. Kunio Okawara designed the mascot as well.
