The iconic RX-78-2 Gundam statue in front of Diver City Tokyo in Odaiba has become an iconic tourist spot. However, several construction workers have started taking down the statue and gave it a “final farewell”. Several Gundam fans, such as twitter user @ShonanPai, were on location when this was happening. They even took some photos:

Truly the end of an era, huh? The Odaiba icon has stood in front of Diver City Tokyo since 2012, and has proven to be one of the island’s most endearing figures. The workers also made a fitting tribute to the Gundam as they constructed it. First, they took the left arm, and then they took off the head. This is to mimic what the RX-78-2 looked like during that epic “Last Shooting” scene from the anime.

But fans should’t worry though. This is because the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam will be replacing the RX-78-2 later this year.
