In his long career, Yuushi Matsuyama composed a ton of anime theme songs, and his most notable work is for Mobile Suit Gundam. Sadly however, the legendary composer passed away due to burns sustained when his house caught fire. He was 79.

According to reports, Matsuyama was in his room at the second floor of his house when it caught fire. Fire fighters were able to rescue the composer, but it was too late. The hospital he was sent to pronounced him dead on arrival due to the burns he sustained.

He worked on Mobile Suit Gundam back in 1979, and decades later, he would then return to compose the music for Gundam: The Origin. The composer also worked on the music for the anime classic, Heidi: Girl of the Alps. His other notable works include songs for Majokko Megu-chan, as well as Shin Kyojin no Hoshi.

We offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
