May’n has become someone like a connoisseur of good food, having tried the many delicacies around Asia. Curiosity overcame our senses and casually, We asked May’n for recommendation to delicious food in Japan.

We got a list of items from her and here is one of it.

Favorites dessert place
Nagoya: HARBS

“This is a cake shop in Nagoya. I’ve never tasted such a delicious Mille Crepe! It’s rich and chewy! And the sizes are huge!”

HARBS?

Originated from the Sakae, Nagoya in 1981, the bakery has committed to bringing handmade cakes that were never frozen and big in its slices. The bakery provides a variety of cakes from Chocolate to seasonal favourites like those which are Sakura flavoured.

Other than Nagoya, they now have stores in Kobe, Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo and Toyota City. If you are from New York, they have their only overseas branch there too.

Mille Crepes

But we are here on the recommendation of May’n, for the Mille Crepes. An item, we found out is something like a signature dish and is HARBS’ most popular item.

At first introduction, we can see the six layers of crepe locking within it, fresh seasonal fruits. For us, it features the likes of kiwi, strawberries, and banana. Because the pastry is never frozen, each of those pieces remained soft with the corresponding juices mixing into the fresh cream used to hold everything together.

As you would have imagined, things got messy very quickly, something that can be blamed on the properties of a blunt dessert fork meeting the healthy but slightly crinkled skin that is the Crepe. The texture when it finally in the mouth is a bit chewy matching those of the fruits, the fresh full cream then completes the satisfactory dessert.

You can then choose to wash it down with a latte or tea~

We had a Chocolate cake as well, similar in size to the Mille Crepe, but it’s just a good chocolate cake. It is nothing to shout out about, something for the children?

Damage は?

These sweet delights would cost about around the ballpark of 2000 yen, for you would be required to get at least a beverage when dining in at the cafe. For the exact cost, you can refer to their menu above.

Last words

Given that HARBS has branches right opposite the JR Nagoya Shinkansen station, it is a no-brainer to drop by for some satisfying sweets. However, if you are nowhere near Nagoya, you can visit its branches in Kobe, Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo and Toyota, even in New York.

Our verdict: As bucho mentioned, the servings are big but at 830 yen a serving, you should keep it for those very special moments~ Like your first time visiting Japan!
