The 36th Annual Fujimoto Awards celebrates the achievements of film producers who worked on popular and entertaining films. Now, Japan’s Film Theater Association (Eiga Engeki Bunka Kyoukai) have finally announced the winners. According to the announcement, this year’s winners include the following:
General Award:
your name. (Makoto Shinkai and Genki Kawamura)
Special Award:
Shin Godzilla (Akihiro Yamauchi and Yoshihiro Sato) and
In This Corner of the World (Masao Maruyama and Taro Maki)
This year’s awards recognised films which premiered in Japan from April 2016 until March 2017. The awards’ namesake is the legendary Japanese film producer, Sanezumi Fujimoto, who also produced the Shachou and Wakadaishou series in Japan.
As for the three films recognised, they are three of last year’s most successful Japanese films. your name is the second highest-grossing Japanese film of all time, while Shin Godzilla grossed 8.2 billion yen. Finally, In This Corner of the World gave your name a huge upset at the Japan Academy Prizes by winning Animation of the Year.
