It looks like Shibuya’s not just going to feature an enormous Akira mural, but an exhibition for creator Katsuhiro Otomo as well. This exhibition will bring the Otomo-tribute book, “OTOMO: A Global Tribute to the Mind Behind Akira” to life.

Officially titled “Tribute to Otomo Exhibition”, it will feature some of Japan’s most beloved artists. They include Masahi Kishimoto (Naruto), Range Murata (Last Exile), Katsuya Terada (Blood: The Last Vampire), Tsutomu Nihei (Knights of Sidonia), Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Neon Genesis Evangelion), as well as Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the Shell), and many more. International artists like Juan Gimenez also have tribute artworks for the Otomo exhibition. It will also feature several original artworks which are exhibition exclusives. They will also run a VTR message from the creators as well.

The Tower Records building in Shibuya will be running the exhibition from 6th – 18th June. You can visit the building’s 8th floor event space, SpaceHACHIKAI, to see the exhibition. And like all Japanese exhibitions, they will also feature some exclusive event merchandise.

The book that the exhibition is based on is a tribute to Otomo’s win during France’s Angoulême International Comics Festival back in 2015.
