Earlier today, Blizzard released the rarity rates for their games, Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm and Hearthstone, for China at least. This is in line with the new regulation in China, forcing developers to disclose the drop rates in games that offer a random loot system.

In posts detailed on the Chinese sites for the games’ individual sites, Blizzard detailed the rarity of their items and we’ve compiled them down below for you. In each game, rarity is divided into 4 distinct rarity classes, Common(White), Rare(Blue), Epic (Purple), and Legendary(Orange).

Overwatch:

In every loot box there will be 4 items.

Rare : Each box contains at least 1 rare or better item
Epic : An average of an Epic item appears every 5.5 boxes
Legendary : An average of a Legendary item appears every 13.5 boxes

Heroes of the Storm:

In every loot chest there will be 4 items.

Rare : Each chest contains on average at least 1 rare item
Epic : An average of an Epic item appear every 4.5 chests
Legendary : An average of a Legendary item appears every 17.5 chests

Hearthstone:

In every pack there will be 5 cards.

Rare : Each pack contains at least 1 rare or better card
Epic : An average of an Epic card appears every 5 packs
Legendary : An average of a Legendary card appears every 20 packs

Additionally, the more packs a player opens, the probability of getting cards of a higher rarity increases.

While rates for Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm seem fair, I believe players, myself included, would like to see Epic and Legendary items a little more often.

The last line in the Hearthstone statement, however, all but confirm the long-standing belief that a pity timer exists in Hearthstone.

While it is not confirmed that these rates are the same across all regions, it will be very surprising if they are not. This is also an interesting look at how Blizzard is balancing the rarity of their items.
